Google’s New Messaging App: ALLO

Introducing one of the coolest messaging apps available to download on both iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play).

So what’s all this then?

“Google Allo, a smart messaging app that helps you say more and do more. Express yourself better with stickers, doodles, and HUGE emojis & text. Allo also brings you the Google Assistant, preview edition.”

Google Allo can do a lot more than regular messaging apps.

Key Features:

  • Respond without typing, in your style
  • Shout or whisper (to get your point across)
  • Edit Photos by drawing on them or adding text (Android only)
  • Sticker Packs (from independent artists & studios around the world)
  • Google Assistant
  • Google Assistant baked into conversations
  • Incognito Mode

Add more with EXPRESSION

Respond without typing, in your style.

Allo is always learning, and in that it’s also learning your personality. For example, if you use certain answers, it will remember this and then suggest it where appropriate; helping you be more efficient and keep the convo going. It can suggest text, questions, emojis based around your personality. How cool is that?!

Shout, or whisper (to get your point across)

Adjust the size of text by: sliding up the text to enlarge, and slide down to whisper.

Edit Photos by drawing on them or adding text (Android Only*)

You can have a bit of fun within the app and edit images by adding text, making memes, just do whatever you want! The world is your metaphorical oyster.

Sticker Packs (from independent artists & studios around the world)

Heaps of stickers to choose from including this cute sloth pack.

Google Assistant (preview edition)

Although this is only a preview, you can definitely still have a play around with it with heaps of options to choose from. Google Assistant can learn from you, which I think is super cool! Also you can ask it a bunch of questions such as, when your next flight is, where you should go for dinner and so much more. Or if you’re a weirdo like me, you can muck around with it and try and ask it some obscure questions. Definitely guaranteed to give you a laugh either way.

Google Assistant baked into conversations

I like to think of Google Assistant as that really helpful friend that’s always got your back. You can bring Google Assistant in to any conversation, at any stage. For example, if you’re trying to decide with your friends where you should eat, just ask Google Assistant and it will show you all some options. You can probe these options further. This means you no longer need to leave the app to plan events with your friends! Simply type @Google or use suggestions to add them in. (NB: At this stage Assistant can’t reveal personal information such as your calendar, while in a chat with other people. If you need calendar information, you’ll need to ask Assistant separately.)

Incognito mode.

Security is always something people are concerned with, and for good reason. Thankfully though you can start incognito chats to send a message with end-to-end encryption. Awesomely, you can also set timers for Incognito mode, controlling how long messages hang around. Basically like a self-destruct mode. How very James Bond.

Of course, there is so much more you can do with Allo. Stay tuned for my next blog with tips and tricks to help you get the most out of Allo!
