New kid to the block, located on Harbour Esplanade on the Waterfront, Mama Rumaan brings a sassy twist to Middle Eastern Food. With inspiration from Lebanon, Syria and Egypt, this Middle Eastern Canteen promises lots of flavour and sure to keep you begging ‘Mama’ for more.
My foodie partner in crime, Melbourne Food Finds, and I decided to take this venue on and we were super impressed.
I’ll be honest, this is the second time I’ve had Mediterranean food, the first being Maha so I was very interested to see what I’d be trying.
We opted for the 7 courses, because why not try *almost * everything. At $55 for Seven courses, or $45 for Five courses, it’s extremely reasonably priced.
I also love share food, so it was a very relaxing way to spend our Saturday night in the city.
First up we had Mezze Dips: Hummus, baba ghanoush, jajik, fried pita w zaatar, flatbread.
Followed by Fried Cauliflower & Lamb Kibbeh.
Then some finger-licking Chicken Ribs marinated in Mama’s garlic sauce & sweet pomegranate molasses.
Middle East Feast Lamb kofta, lamb tekka, chicken tekka, flat bread, traditional condiments
For the final savoury course we enjoyed tender Qouzi & fresh Fattouche.
I couldn’t get enough of the Qouzi, luckily, we even got to take it home because by this stage our stomachs were bursting. Highly recommend getting this dish!
For dessert, we enjoyed a tasting plate of their restaurant favourites. All of it was so delicious, however my absolute favourite was Mama Tatiana’s Knafeh. I love rosewater as well, so that probably explains that!
All courses of which was enjoyed with a glass of Pinot Noir. Even looking at these images now has got me salivating. All the dishes were so amazingly flavourful, the interior was homely and the staff were extremely friendly.
If you’re looking for somewhere different to go on your weekend to Melbourne, I highly recommend trying out Mama Rumaan. I can definitely see this place being hugely popular in the summer, and who could blame them?!
Mama says sharing is caring.
